Birmingham has picked up 2 awards at last nights MIPIM UK Awards in London:
City of the Year
The MIPIM UK / Estates Gazette City of the Year has had a stellar 12 months.Earlier this year the influential ULI/PwC Emerging Trends in Real Estate report revealed the winner had moved up 14 places to 6th in the annual ranking of European cities that are attracting investor interest.Throw in the promise of significant improvements to transport infrastructure, airport expansion as well as regeneration of its main station and other parts of the city centre and there is much to celebrate. It has not been without its challenges of course but this city has attracted some of the very highest profile occupiers from London and has reinvented itself as a live, work and play destination for the next generation.
City Leader of the Year
There could only be one winner of this year's City Leader of the Year award.Under his leadership, his city's reputation has been transformed: from inward investment prospects to occupier attractiveness and beyond.Knighted in 2002 for services to local government, he has been a councillor since 1980.And no council chief executive has done more to transform the fortunes of their local area in the last 12 months than the winner of this category.
