The OPTICITIES project is ambitious and aiming high by developing and testing interoperable Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) solutions in six cities across Europe in order to provide citizens with the best possible journey conditions and to optimize urban logistics operations.
Participation in the project has allowed Birmingham to develop innovative decision support tools that use predictive techniques to forecast problems on the strategic urban road network and implement traffic management strategies to mitigate disruption to road users. The output of the OPTICITIES project is now being promoted on a wider scale within Europe as part of the European Innovation Partnership to scale up new mobility services in Europe
The OPTICITIES project team are organising a study visit in Birmingham on 8 July 2016. This event will combine expert presentations and live demonstrations focusing on innovative urban ITS services.
The agenda will include:
- Introduction to OPTICITIES project
- Transport policy: Birmingham Connected / WMCA
- Data management / open data platform / Multimodal datasets / Potential for C-ITS
- Use of traffic prediction in OCR
- Freight journey time reliability and driver assist services
