DIATOMIC at Birmingham Tech Week: Driving Digital Innovation



Birmingham Tech Week, the UK’s largest regional tech festival, is set to take place from October 21st to 25th, 2024. Among the many innovative projects showcased, the DIATOMIC (Digital InnovAtion TransfOrMatIve Change) project will be a highlight, demonstrating its commitment to driving digital innovation and inclusive growth in the West Midlands.

About DIATOMIC

DIATOMIC aims to build the innovation capability and capacity of the West Midlands, positioning Birmingham as a leading city in digital and inclusive innovation. The project is led by Connected Places Catapult in collaboration with key partners, including Aston University, Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, Birmingham City Council, Birmingham City University, and the University of Birmingham.

Key Objectives

  • Accelerating Place-Based Innovation: DIATOMIC focuses on harnessing the region’s existing international relationships and launching targeted initiatives to grow the clean tech, health tech, and med tech markets.
  • Supporting Local SMEs: The project enables civic leaders to set innovation challenges and supports local SMEs in responding to these challenges, fostering a vibrant ecosystem of innovation.
  • Inclusive Innovation Hub: Establishing the UK’s first inclusive innovation hub, DIATOMIC promotes the use of data for better decision-making and develops tools for impact assessment.[NB1]
